Testimony/How you mix racing with relationship with God/Inspiring word/How CORE has impacted you:
A few years back just before racing season started I was thinking about my goals for the year and also reflecting on accomplishments from years past when God showed me a new and better perspective on racing. If you asked me about my accomplishments I would tell you about races and money I had won or where I finished in the points chases. There is nothing wrong with any of those accomplishments but where was God being glorified in my passion and hobby? How was I making sure that I didn’t let racing take the place of my relationship with God or my responsibilities in life? It’s so easy to let hobbies or passions take priority in our lives and neglect what’s really important.
So He showed me that if I adjust my perspective and goals in racing to not how many races I win or how much money I win or where I place in the point chase but rather reaching out to people, making a difference in their lives by letting them know that Jesus loves them and he cares about them and whatever life challenges they are going through. I could leave each racing event as a winner and a champion for God.
There are a lot of hurting people in the world that just need to know that someone cares for them and about them. The racing community is full of people that put racing first in their lives and neglected their family, marriage, financial responsibilities and most importantly their relationship with God. They need to be reached and that is what CORE is all about, reaching people, ministering to their needs, and restoring their relationship with God. It might start out with a simple prayer for something they are going through or it could be helping them work on their car at the track or it could just be a handshake and a smile letting them know that someone is glad to see them there.
CORE has made a difference in my life and my relationship with God. I attend to help Joey with the weekly Bible Study at the track each week. When we have races on Sunday he is always there hosting a church service teaching us about the love of God with practical lessons that we can relate to. It’s helped me keep my priorities straight and caused me to draw closer to God.
